| I haven’t ever laughed this hard. Not your typical “chick flick” romance story. Two women bored of relationships pick up what they believe to be 2 male prostitutes. Long story short - both couples fall in love. The hilariously stupid things said in between make it more than worth while. Also a lesson I haven’t seen in many of these love stories - usually the relationship either works, or one falls hard while the other tries to live on, but in this case - they find that the best result may be to leave with the wave of a hand. This also shows that low budget films are often the best (ideas remain as ideas - not profits). Watch it. | ![]() |

The only word I can find to suite this film is “overwhelming.” From the outrageously beautiful Aishwarya Rai, to the Indian decoration, the monochromatic color schemes accented with gold - all are a lot to take in (especially when it lasts 4 hours). What I found most overwhelming were the numerous times my throat clenched up in awe of the powerful emotions expressed through the numbers of people along with the simplicity of the language. To some it may seem “korny,” but it is overall a romantic comedy. Also - many criticize its historical inaccuracy, but what history is accurate? (Besides, its about the love story, not the history) I loved it so much I spent another 4 hours watching it again. |
| My German friend had me watch this - I am extremely glad I did. Two half brothers’ lives of love and sex (or the lack of) and the odd/terrible past that lead them to make mistakes. Saddening, at the same time warming. Great story telling - I think I’ll watch more of Germany’s popular Oskar Roehler films. Warning - Intensely sexual, but not blatantly. | ![]() |
| The high ratings for this movie aren’t just a bunch of geysers who are stuck to their old movies and have recently found IMDB. It really is that great. I’m the type that thinks they always know what will happen next, and/or assumes the outcome of a plot, but this one will surprise you - don’t care who you are. Hitchcock would’ve clapped, or maybe he actually did… | ![]() |

This film is a great mystery horror! Much better than the over-done shit we see in theaters today that scare with excessive gore and surprise loud sounds. Very much like a Hitchcock: the ending is a complete surprise. One of the few mysteries that you really cannot guess the outcome. The main character’s girlfriend is pretty hot too.. |

Another amazing film from Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It’s kind of like a French harry potter for adults, but better - and without magic wands. If you can’t get enough of Dominique Pinon (from most of Jeunet’s movies), you definitely will in this one! (he’s cloned into tons of his own brothers) The idea of this movie is so unique, even it’s plot: no movie is at all similar. If you don’t appreciate the young nature of this movie - then you will surely love the effects and scenery - it is unbelievable that they achieved some of this all the way back in 1995! I wish I lived in France just to see Jean-Pierre Jeunet movies! |
| This could possibly be the greatest film ever made. It gives every contrast in every aspect of everything, and then - relates and unites the opposites. Just remember to be careful to not hang your underwear on the wrong criminal’s clothesline at the wrong time, because then the Brazilian government will come in and kill everyone. If you can’t say this is the greatest film ever, you have to be able to at least say it is the greatest prison movie. It touches on the guilt of murderers, the love between brothers, the ties of loyalty and respect, and then breaks them all. One amazing part of the movie is how the story of a character is introduced, you have a tie to him - and instantly he is gone. No one cares, and they aren’t mentioned again. Thats it. At first, it is quite confusing to see inmates hopping from cell to cell as if it were an insanely disgusting college dorm house (as if they aren’t actually disgusting) and making | decisions like they are free men. Essentially - they are, except they are surrounded by fences and walls. You are exposed to fear, confusion, happiness, humor, and just about everything else. Just as two men are getting married and you think to yourself “this movie is completely ridiculous” you begin to understand in the form of a question “is it really?” All I can say is that after seeing this, along with City of God, I don’t think I’ll ever be taking a trip to Brazil! But, the sheer insaneness sure as hell makes for some of the greatest films in history. | ![]() |
| Chances are you’ve already seen this since it was out in 2000, but if you haven’t I would strongly suggest that you do as much as I strongly suggest that you don’t. I never thought a movie could actually make me feel pain (and I’m not just talking about holding your hand over your mouth and cringing when graphic scenes come along): this movie makes you feel like shit. You should watch this film because of the amazing editing (that to some seems a bit overdone and annoying) but I think is innovative and realistic, while on the other hand you shouldn’t watch this movie because you cannot handle people going through pain and/or have had a loved-one who has been addicted to drugs. Do not watch this before bed, and try not to watch it alone. Amazing, disgusting and painful all at the same time. | ![]() |

There is nothing usual about this movie, yet the idea and themes are not unusual. This film is of high contrast compared to 9 Songs in which Michael Winterbottom pushed the limits too far. In the sense that the limits are being pushed - this movie goes right to the edge (and then some) without causing a panic. I never thought I’d say one of my favorite and one of least favorite movies would be from the same Director/Writer. The ideas of our near future are probably the most realistic of any movie - even the mixture of languages (which may make the movie hard to understand if you aren’t familiar with basic Spanish, French, and Arabic). It presents many questions and problems with government, morals, and love - and proves that no matter the steps we will take in the future to prevent things from happening that may be looked down upon by the majority’s morals - nothing can surpass the power of the human mind, memory, and love. If I were to recommend any movie to anyone (other than children due to intense sexual scenes) this would be it! |
| English: A Very Long Engagement. Movies like this are what make me depressed to live in this time. Either it was the warm tint, or the beautiful scenes of the French country sides - this movie captivated me and left me wishing I lived in such a simple time and place. As seen in Amélie, Jean-Pierre Jeunet connects you to the character through funny little ideas that we would only keep to ourselves - in this case its Mathilde’s mind races to ensure that there is still hope that her fiance is still alive. After seeing the two movies from Jeunet, I must find all that I can - he simply is (to my terms) the best story teller in theaters. You cannot walk away from seeing this film without thinking about it and/or pretending you have a French accent (or maybe thats just me). | ![]() |
| English : Let the Right One In. This is such an amazing film I wish I could tell more, but I cannot without spoiling it! A Swedish Horror / Romance from earlier this year about a young bullied boy and his new neighbor friend. It’s not overdone with large sound effects to make you scream, or haunting music. The music is actually great (I’ll find out who and report later). Everything is amazing about it: the picture, the music, and by far the connection to the characters and the story. Hopefully I haven’t said to much, just watch it! | ![]() |
