Another amazing film from Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It’s kind of like a French harry potter for adults, but better - and without magic wands. If you can’t get enough of Dominique Pinon (from most of Jeunet’s movies), you definitely will in this one! (he’s cloned into tons of his own brothers) The idea of this movie is so unique, even it’s plot: no movie is at all similar. If you don’t appreciate the young nature of this movie - then you will surely love the effects and scenery - it is unbelievable that they achieved some of this all the way back in 1995! I wish I lived in France just to see Jean-Pierre Jeunet movies! |
| This could possibly be the greatest film ever made. It gives every contrast in every aspect of everything, and then - relates and unites the opposites. Just remember to be careful to not hang your underwear on the wrong criminal’s clothesline at the wrong time, because then the Brazilian government will come in and kill everyone. If you can’t say this is the greatest film ever, you have to be able to at least say it is the greatest prison movie. It touches on the guilt of murderers, the love between brothers, the ties of loyalty and respect, and then breaks them all. One amazing part of the movie is how the story of a character is introduced, you have a tie to him - and instantly he is gone. No one cares, and they aren’t mentioned again. Thats it. At first, it is quite confusing to see inmates hopping from cell to cell as if it were an insanely disgusting college dorm house (as if they aren’t actually disgusting) and making | decisions like they are free men. Essentially - they are, except they are surrounded by fences and walls. You are exposed to fear, confusion, happiness, humor, and just about everything else. Just as two men are getting married and you think to yourself “this movie is completely ridiculous” you begin to understand in the form of a question “is it really?” All I can say is that after seeing this, along with City of God, I don’t think I’ll ever be taking a trip to Brazil! But, the sheer insaneness sure as hell makes for some of the greatest films in history. | ![]() |

It is annoying to me that this artist has not giving his identity, but I am still so glad I found him on deviantArt, great stuff. Very calming and an odd type of funny: you’ll think it is humorous, but you wont laugh.

| Chances are you’ve already seen this since it was out in 2000, but if you haven’t I would strongly suggest that you do as much as I strongly suggest that you don’t. I never thought a movie could actually make me feel pain (and I’m not just talking about holding your hand over your mouth and cringing when graphic scenes come along): this movie makes you feel like shit. You should watch this film because of the amazing editing (that to some seems a bit overdone and annoying) but I think is innovative and realistic, while on the other hand you shouldn’t watch this movie because you cannot handle people going through pain and/or have had a loved-one who has been addicted to drugs. Do not watch this before bed, and try not to watch it alone. Amazing, disgusting and painful all at the same time. | ![]() |
