There is nothing usual about this movie, yet the idea and themes are not unusual. This film is of high contrast compared to 9 Songs in which Michael Winterbottom pushed the limits too far. In the sense that the limits are being pushed - this movie goes right to the edge (and then some) without causing a panic. I never thought I’d say one of my favorite and one of least favorite movies would be from the same Director/Writer. The ideas of our near future are probably the most realistic of any movie - even the mixture of languages (which may make the movie hard to understand if you aren’t familiar with basic Spanish, French, and Arabic). It presents many questions and problems with government, morals, and love - and proves that no matter the steps we will take in the future to prevent things from happening that may be looked down upon by the majority’s morals - nothing can surpass the power of the human mind, memory, and love. If I were to recommend any movie to anyone (other than children due to intense sexual scenes) this would be it!

Zinin Alexei has some great artistic nudes. And being artistic nudes - they are actually artistic and beautiful - always classy (never smut). All of his models are amazing to say the least (the very least).

Sylvain Chauveau has a long list of records, all of which are really hard to find (without Boomkat). I’d have to say “Nauge” is my favorite. So simple, so quiet, and far from boring. The most simple and beautiful modern classical compositions you’ve heard.

Federico Erra has been one of my favorite flickr members for a very long time. His colors and editing have an aesthetic beauty that is exclusive to his work. He has a selection of some models, a sex and psychology series, and my favorite: his self portraits and portraits of his beautiful girlfriend.

Caught these in another blog and had to say something! I’ve never seen headphones so creatively designed. Hopefully the sound produced by these is also good. Even though they are a bit on the “Urban Outfitters” trendy-teenage type market, they are so unique, and clean (brushed metal finish) I think they’d be worth the $80 (as long as the sound is great). Although, comfort might also be an issue, either way - cool design!

Invisible Creature, formerly Asterisk Studios, is probably the best place to go for music labels and musicians looking for great design. They’ve done album covers/books, posters, (and everything else) for tons and tons of huge artists in all genres. The Illustrator work is great. Simplicity with colors and shapes alongside good band photography and great textures also. I love everything about this studio (which is odd because I usually hate music-industry design).

Once I started driving my Great Grandfather’s 1971 Mercedes 280Se, I have found a great appreciation for classic cars. On the internet, however, it is hard to find good pictures of these cars because most are locked up in garages and even though they make their way around the world to car shows, they some how don’t often end up on our screens. Phil Seed’s Virtual Car Museum shows you tons and tons of classic cars, and even better - they are all images from the car’s time. Great ads, illustrations and photographs of these cars when they were in their prime. The simplicity of the ads alone attracts me (in such a large comparison to our over-done modern ads with tons of copy and drop-shadows). This site will be a new obsession of mine.

Un long dimanche de fiançailles

English: A Very Long Engagement. Movies like this are what make me depressed to live in this time. Either it was the warm tint, or the beautiful scenes of the French country sides - this movie captivated me and left me wishing I lived in such a simple time and place. As seen in Amélie, Jean-Pierre Jeunet connects you to the character through funny little ideas that we would only keep to ourselves - in this case its Mathilde’s mind races to ensure that there is still hope that her fiance is still alive. After seeing the two movies from Jeunet, I must find all that I can - he simply is (to my terms) the best story teller in theaters. You cannot walk away from seeing this film without thinking about it and/or pretending you have a French accent (or maybe thats just me).

These are the finds that I love! A fashion designer who loves photography - simply stated on her flickr profile. Her flickr shows a great deal of beautifully natural photos. Natural, but not effortless. The one pictured is an amazing scene of what I believe is somewhere in Sweden. Great stuff!

English : Let the Right One In. This is such an amazing film I wish I could tell more, but I cannot without spoiling it! A Swedish Horror / Romance from earlier this year about a young bullied boy and his new neighbor friend. It’s not overdone with large sound effects to make you scream, or haunting music. The music is actually great (I’ll find out who and report later). Everything is amazing about it: the picture, the music, and by far the connection to the characters and the story. Hopefully I haven’t said to much, just watch it!

Ryan Schude’s photographs are already amazing, but some of them I consider more than just photographs: The few images in the beginning of the first section of his portfolio are complete stories and events. They are so unique because the subjects aren’t just relating to their surroundings - they are scattered everywhere and still all relate to each other. His lighting and story telling really go beyond a 2 dimensional format and remind me of the recollection of an entire memory. They are almost like a short scene in a movie all in one shot.
